Community Leader Darcy Huffman Announces Campaign For 35th LD State Representative
Shelton - Community Leader Darcy Huffman announced her campaign today for State House of Representatives in the 35th Legislative District position two.
“As the administrator of a large progressive church in Olympia for the last nine years, I watched my community struggle with the lack of affordable healthcare, housing, and the stagnation of economic development.
I’ve attended countless meetings and planning sessions concerning these issues, but always as representative of my faith community and in the capacity of how they could help. About a year ago, I decided that it was time for me to do more,” said Darcy.
Darcy was raised by her adopted parents in rural Washington near the town of Snohomish. Her Dad was a member of U.A. Local #32 Plumbers and Pipefitters in Seattle and worked on many projects around the Pacific Northwest. Her mom’s job was taking care of the family. They both taught her that family, hard work and service to others were the most important things in life.
Darcy spent 25 years in various roles, including leadership, in the banking and financial industry. For the last nine years she has served as the Resource and Communication Director at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Olympia. During her time at Good Shepherd she managed a substantial budget, a 45,000 square-foot building and a robust communications program. She also developed strong and beneficial relationships with businesses and non-profits in the community and the world. These give her a unique perspective on those experiencing health issues, homelessness and food insecurity.
She is currently the Vice-President elect for the Southwestern Washington Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). She also sits on their Affordable Housing Taskforce.
She and her husband Trevor are proud to call Thurston County their home. Together they have raised two sons here, one Marine who completed a tour in Afghanistan and now lives in California and one who is a freshman at Western Washington University. They are raising their granddaughter as well and want to make sure she has all the opportunities she needs to lead a full and healthy life.
